Why does buying one new thing make you broke?
The investigation
It is called the Diderot Effect. In the 18th century, French philosopher Denis Diderot bought a fancy red robe. Suddenly, his entire house looked ugly in comparison. He ended up replacing all his furniture to match the robe and went bankrupt.
We do the same thing today. You buy a new phone, and suddenly your old cover, headphones, and even your clothes feel “outdated.” One purchase triggers a chain reaction of consumption that never ends.
Unless your dad is Bill Gates or Mian Mansha, you need to break this chain. Stop upgrading your life to match one item.
